(“B” approaches the front door of an apartment building. “B” is carefully carrying a birthday cake with the candles already lit. “B” rings the bell. “B” waits.)

(No one answers.)

(“B” rings the bell.)

(No one answers.)

(The candles continue to burn.)

(“B” rings the bell.)

(No one answers.)

B: (muttering) ...said you’d be home.

(“B” puts the birthday cake down on the sidewalk and pulls out a pen and paper. “B” writes a note. “B” folds the note and sticks it in the top of the cake's frosting. “B” exits.)

(some time passes)

(...the cake.)

(“A” is a passerby that almost walks by the cake without noticing. “A” stops and looks around to see if anyone looks as if they left this cake here.)

(“A” takes the note from the top of the cake and reads it.)

(“A” looks around.)

(“A” takes the cake. “A” exits.)

(some time passes.)

(The door opens. “C” appears possibly in their underwear and still putting on a shirt. “C” looks out.)
